Introducing Flower English Paper Piecing Worksheet 2 - Stepping Stones

Welcome,

Today I'm introducing my second set of EPP Flower Worksheets, this is for my 'Stepping Stones' layout

These worksheets are great when you’ve collected and made your EPP flowers and have chosen your final pattern, but now you have these questions:
 - how many flowers do I need for a queen sized quilt?
 - how many background hexagons will I need?
 - how much fabric should I buy for the or edging?

This workpaper was developed to answer the above and includes the following:
 - line drawings for each of 5 quilt sizes
 - total number of flowers required for each quilt size
 - total number of background pieces required for each quilt size
 - total amount of fabric required for the flowers
 - total amount of fabric required for the background for each quilt size
This information is included on the first page for each size:

Quilt sizes included:
 - crib 49 x 50 inches
 - throw 61 x 67 inches
 - twin 64 x 99 inches
 - queen 97 x 99 inches
 - king 109 x 106 inches

Original patterns and calculations are for use with 1 inch hexagons, however conversions for the following sized hexagons are included:
 - ½ inch
 - 3/4 inch
 - 1-½  inch
 - 2 inch

The second page for each size shows the layout for the quilt, this can be used to plan colour placing or to update your progress:

A free copy of the throw size is available for 4 weeks here, the full worksheet is available in my Etsy shop here.

If you use these worksheets to create a quilt please share it with me.

2016 EPP Flower Swap - Update 3

Welcome,

Here is the final update of my swapped Hexagon flowers for 2016.

I was late getting my flowers made for my swap partners and actually sent my October, November and December flowers at the beginning of December

The flowers posted were:

October to Debra in Texas USA who requested petals with a small print with small print, check or lines in black & white for the centres

November flowers went to Molly in Texas USA who had no preference on petal fabrics but requested yellow centres

December to Paula in Caloundra here on the Sunshine Coast, Australia.  Paula requested bright, patterned fabric for the flower petals with green centres, I hope they are bright enough

I received the following flowers from my swap partners:

Octobers flowers came from Carrie in Colorado USA

November flowers were received by Geraldine in Northampton in the UK - aren't those buttons cute!

And the flowers I made for myself each moth:

EPP Plus+ Quilt finished

Welcome,

I finished quilting and binding the English Paper Pieced (EPP) Plus+ (Plus Plus) quilt a little while ago and finally took some photos.

I am really happy with it, it finishes at 60 x 60 inches.

I completed straight(ish) line quilting.

I varied the width between te sraight lines.

Each set of lines works from the edge, to a plus and bounces back to the edge you can see the centre of the pattern at this orange plus below

I finished it by binding it with a shot cotton that I had on hand, which after attaching I realised had not been included in the quilt - typical!
I am happy with it though, it gives it a bright touch.

As always I added a label ... always makes me smile!

I am loving the softness of these shot cottons, even hubby said he'd like the texture and thinks it would be a nice quilt to curl up under in winter.

I am putting the finishing touches to a pattern for this, I shall share this with you very soon.

Farmer's Wife Quilt 2016 Instalment 2

Welcome,

Wowsers, it's been a while since the last Farmers Wife EPP update ... and I haven't completed many blocks since then either. I must rectify this in 2017.

I may try setting myself a 'one block a week' challenge. That way you can all hold me accountable and make sure I stick to it. I would have all of the blocks completed by year end and could start assembling too.

So, here are the 3 blocks that I did complete earlier in the year.
Farmer's Daughter Quilt Block 76 - Sawtooth
Completed 14 May 2016
Farmer's Daughter Quilt Block 77 - Seasons
Completed  15 April 2016
Farmer's Daughter Quilt Block 78 - Shooting Star
Completed 24 April 2016

Quilt stats to date:
  • 111 blocks - 77 completed
  • 110 cornerstones - 37 completed
  • 32 half cornerstones - 12 completed
  • 28 setting triangles - nil completed
  • 4 small setting triangles - nil completed
  • 252 sashing strips - 66 completed
  • borders - still undecided what I am going to do here

I have been completing more blocks through January - I'll share those with you soon!

A Christmas Pillow Case Gift

Welcome,

As a Christmas gift I made this pillow case for a friend.. 😃

It is made with scraps and a orphan block after making Bermuda's Quilt

I wanted to create something that looked like it belonged with the quilt but wanted to use up as many of the scraps I had as possible.

I feel that the triangles alongside one quilt sized block fits my brief.

I am really please with how it looks, I've even managed to use up another orphan half block - with the dragonflies.

I kept the quilting simple, on the triangle section I just quilted 1/8 inch from each seam line.

In the diamond block section I quilted it as I did on the actual quilt - straight line quilting in the diamond with pebbles and some swirls and a few feathers for luck!

That was my last finish for 2016 😊
