EPP coat finish

Hi All

In July (winter here) my MiL requested a colourful patchwork jacket, I told her she could have one for Christmas as it would take a while to make, of course I decided to make it using the English Paper Piecing hand piecing method.

The request was for lots of colour and no black or white - well it's definitely colourful, but there is some black and white and I don't think that that hurts at all.

I started this back in September and have been slowly stitching it since then and am really happy with the way it has turned out - bonus, the MiL liked it too!

Lots of pictures to follow showing some of the details

I know the sleeves look short, here in Qld Australia the winters aren't too cold and when I asked how long she wanted the sleeves she indicated elbow length - this was a compromise!

I used the Simplicity 8298 pattern and just ensured that I created sections that were big enough to cut the pieces out of one at a time.

I didn't even consider matching the hexies when cutting the pieces, happily the front looks good with the hexies sitting at the same height, the back doesn't look quite so good, but definitely something to consider next time!

I enjoyed making this and would certainly consider making another - but maybe not with EPP ;)

Completed Barely There Quilt

Welcome!

Today I'm shareing the finished Barely There Quilt

I sandwiched it with a simple teal spot backing fabric

I'm finding it really hard to get great pictures of the colours. The teals are a little more vibrant but they are soft colours

I quilted this quilt with simple 'in the ditch' quilting in every seam

Finally I bound it with a nice simple grey brushed cotton - a favourite of mine!

The finished size of each rectangle is 2.5 x 4.25 inches  and the finished size of the quilt is 48 x 52 inches

This quilt has been listed for sale on Etsy

Barely There Quilt Top Finish

Welcome,

When I posted my finished jumper last week I found this draft post which has obviously been here a while as this quilt is well and truly finished - I'll share the finished quilt soon

I have completed another quilt top.

I am enjoying the movement in the pattern with the mix of rectangles and half square rectangles

There wasn't really a plan for this, instead I spent quite a bit of time moving blocks around on my 'design floor'

The fabrics used were from the first ever bundle I bought at the beginning of the year with fabrics by Rosalie Dekker, I fell in love with the muted teals, greys and pinks straight away

This was my first time sewing with half square rectangles, sewing them together was no problem, but I hadn't taken into account that the shorter edge would need a wider seam allowance to allow the points to match up!

The quilt finishes at 45 x 54 inches
made up of 216 blocks finishing at 2.5 x 4.5 inches
There are 153 rectangle blocks and 63 half rectangle blocks

Now I just need to find a suitable backing fabric and quilt it!

Trip Around The World Quilt Finish

Welcome!

I have finished my Trip Around The World Quilt and I love it!  I need a larger version for my bed!

This quilt has been made using a combination of soft pinks, blues, greens and greys using the Trip Around the World Quilt Method

I goes against my grain not to have everything symmetrical and organised, but you will see that each block has blocks of each of the 4 colours

I quilted the quilt using straight lines going diagonally through the squares and added additional straight line quilting at the edges, I'm really happy with how it turned out.

I have backed the quilt with a soft pink flower fabric and a contrasting white stripe

I love the combination

The quilt finishes at 45 x 45 inches with 1.5 inch finished squares

You can read more about the quilt here

This quilt is available for sale in my Etsy store here

Trip Around The World Quilt Top Finish

Welcome,

This top has been finished for a little while

I finally had a go at a Trip Around the World Quilt.

I love this softer colours and included a white strip in each block to give the finished pattern some structure. Each block has grey, pink, green and aqua.

I enjoyed this strip piecing method of construction and like the irregularity of the colour placement.

Each block finishes at 1.5 inches and the quilt itself finishes at 45 x 45 inches

I have already got it pinned and am nearly finished with the quilting

Patchwork Cushion Finish

Welcome!

I have recently completed this patchwork cushion for a friends birthday.

I love the simplicity in the piecing coupled with the hand quilting.

I spent many an hour agonising over whether or not the stitching was too dominant. But decided i like it just the way it is!

I finished it with some Leanne Beasley fabrics on the back and a zip closure.

It has now been gifted and in its forever home.

Irish Chain Quilt Top

Welcome,

I haven't spent much time in front of the sewing machine recently. So when I got the chance I dug through my blue fabrics.

I have enjoyed the simple piecing of a traditional pattern that makes up this single Irish Chain top.

It was created with just 3 different blocks:
 - 9 patch
 - 9 patch variation for the edge pieces and
 - a plain background square

Now I just need to gather supplies to sandwich and quilt it

All blue squares finish at 2 inches. And the quilt measures 54x54 inches.

A Christmas Pillow Case Gift

Welcome,

As a Christmas gift I made this pillow case for a friend.. 😃

It is made with scraps and a orphan block after making Bermuda's Quilt

I wanted to create something that looked like it belonged with the quilt but wanted to use up as many of the scraps I had as possible.

I feel that the triangles alongside one quilt sized block fits my brief.

I am really please with how it looks, I've even managed to use up another orphan half block - with the dragonflies.

I kept the quilting simple, on the triangle section I just quilted 1/8 inch from each seam line.

In the diamond block section I quilted it as I did on the actual quilt - straight line quilting in the diamond with pebbles and some swirls and a few feathers for luck!

That was my last finish for 2016 😊
