Hi All
In July (winter here) my MiL requested a colourful patchwork jacket, I told her she could have one for Christmas as it would take a while to make, of course I decided to make it using the English Paper Piecing hand piecing method.
The request was for lots of colour and no black or white - well it's definitely colourful, but there is some black and white and I don't think that that hurts at all.
I started this back in September and have been slowly stitching it since then and am really happy with the way it has turned out - bonus, the MiL liked it too!
Lots of pictures to follow showing some of the details
I know the sleeves look short, here in Qld Australia the winters aren't too cold and when I asked how long she wanted the sleeves she indicated elbow length - this was a compromise!
I used the Simplicity 8298 pattern and just ensured that I created sections that were big enough to cut the pieces out of one at a time.
I didn't even consider matching the hexies when cutting the pieces, happily the front looks good with the hexies sitting at the same height, the back doesn't look quite so good, but definitely something to consider next time!
I enjoyed making this and would certainly consider making another - but maybe not with EPP ;)
Thanks for popping by
Vicki

English Paper Pieced Cushion Finish
Welcome,
I have finally finished this English Paper Pieced (EPP) cushion.
I believe the pattern is called spring carnival and is made up of squares and triangles around a central hexagon.
All pieces in this cushion have sides 2 inches in length, bigger than previous projects I have completed.
I found these beautiful wellington boot/ gum boot fabrics which are the star in this cushion and have been paired with coordinating tone on tone floral fabrics in green, blue and pink.
I backed the cushion with the green fabric and inserted a hidden zipper.
I love it and can't wait to make some more using this pattern.
Thank you for popping by,
Vicki

Finished Spring Carnival EPP Cushion |
For those that don't know, EPP is a hand piecing method originating in England where the fabric is wrapped around pieces of paper to hold the shape for piecing. I find this a great way to relax in front of the TV in the evenings.

I have backed the top with muslin and used a 100% bamboo batting before quilting with simple straight lines following the squares of the design.

I love it and can't wait to make some more using this pattern.

Work In Progress Wednesday
Welcome,
This week I have a couple of unfinished projects that I'd really like to get finished - that doesn't mean that there aren't more, but maybe I'll share the others with you another time!
The first is an English Paper Pieced (EPP) cushion, I've even quilted it and have the backing fabric ready. The problem is that it's been sat here in that state for more than a few weeks!
The second is a quilt, again all quilted and just needs a trim and the binding to be added, which is already cut and just sat patiently waiting.
I love these colours - they actually match a quilted pillow I have on my bed!
All in all these should be 2 finishes in the very near future ... we can but live in hope! However, now that I have shared them with you in Blogland I have someone to answer to if they don't get finished!
Thank you for popping by,
Vicki
