Hi All
In July (winter here) my MiL requested a colourful patchwork jacket, I told her she could have one for Christmas as it would take a while to make, of course I decided to make it using the English Paper Piecing hand piecing method.
The request was for lots of colour and no black or white - well it's definitely colourful, but there is some black and white and I don't think that that hurts at all.
I started this back in September and have been slowly stitching it since then and am really happy with the way it has turned out - bonus, the MiL liked it too!
Lots of pictures to follow showing some of the details
I know the sleeves look short, here in Qld Australia the winters aren't too cold and when I asked how long she wanted the sleeves she indicated elbow length - this was a compromise!
I used the Simplicity 8298 pattern and just ensured that I created sections that were big enough to cut the pieces out of one at a time.
I didn't even consider matching the hexies when cutting the pieces, happily the front looks good with the hexies sitting at the same height, the back doesn't look quite so good, but definitely something to consider next time!
I enjoyed making this and would certainly consider making another - but maybe not with EPP ;)
Thanks for popping by
Vicki

2016 EPP Flower Swap - Update 3
Welcome,
Here is the final update of my swapped Hexagon flowers for 2016.
I was late getting my flowers made for my swap partners and actually sent my October, November and December flowers at the beginning of December
The flowers posted were:
October to Debra in Texas USA who requested petals with a small print with small print, check or lines in black & white for the centres
November flowers went to Molly in Texas USA who had no preference on petal fabrics but requested yellow centres
December to Paula in Caloundra here on the Sunshine Coast, Australia. Paula requested bright, patterned fabric for the flower petals with green centres, I hope they are bright enough
I received the following flowers from my swap partners:
Octobers flowers came from Carrie in Colorado USA
November flowers were received by Geraldine in Northampton in the UK - aren't those buttons cute!
And the flowers I made for myself each moth:
October
November
December

EPP Plus+ Quilt finished
Welcome,
I finished quilting and binding the English Paper Pieced (EPP) Plus+ (Plus Plus) quilt a little while ago and finally took some photos.
I am really happy with it, it finishes at 60 x 60 inches.
I completed straight(ish) line quilting.
I varied the width between te sraight lines.
Each set of lines works from the edge, to a plus and bounces back to the edge you can see the centre of the pattern at this orange plus below
I finished it by binding it with a shot cotton that I had on hand, which after attaching I realised had not been included in the quilt - typical!
I am happy with it though, it gives it a bright touch.
As always I added a label ... always makes me smile!
I am loving the softness of these shot cottons, even hubby said he'd like the texture and thinks it would be a nice quilt to curl up under in winter.
I am putting the finishing touches to a pattern for this, I shall share this with you very soon.

Farmer's Wife Quilt 2016 Instalment 2
Welcome,
Wowsers, it's been a while since the last Farmers Wife EPP update ... and I haven't completed many blocks since then either. I must rectify this in 2017.
I may try setting myself a 'one block a week' challenge. That way you can all hold me accountable and make sure I stick to it. I would have all of the blocks completed by year end and could start assembling too.
So, here are the 3 blocks that I did complete earlier in the year.
Quilt stats to date:
I have been completing more blocks through January - I'll share those with you soon!
Thanks for popping by

2016 EPP Flower Swap - Update 2
Welcome,
When I wrote the first 2016 flower swap update in April I was determined to update you regularly ... well I didn't quite manage that!
First, let me remind you ... I have been swapping hexagon flowers monthly with the Inchy Flower Swap. We are given a partner each month and we make 2 flowers to send to them in their desired colours, these are the flowers that I have made and sent:
April to Elizabeth in Virgina USA who requested jewel toned petals with grey/black centres
May to Beverly in Oklahoma USA asked for petals in shades of blue and white with yellow centres - these 'read' blue to me, I hope they were what Beverly was after
June flowers went to Ruth in Glendale NSW, she requested petals in shades of red/black/grey/white with white signed centres. I didn't sign mine as I was so worried about the pen bleeding and/or washing out, I've yet to find the perfect pen for signing flowers
July to Jenny in Ashgrove, not far from me here in Qld, Australia, she requested black and white petals with white or grey centres
August to Sara in Buckingham, UK who asked for petals with bright, vibrant colors with coordinating centres
September flowers went to Tessa Johnson of Iowa USA who requested bright coloured petals with purple centres - I love this colour combination, I may have to use it in a quilt!
I have received the following flowers in the same time period:
May from Michele in Winconsin USA, they are perfect
June flowers were received from Michell inGisborne NZ, they fit in my garden perfectly
August flowers came from Susan in South Carolina USA, she sent 3 and this beautiful card
And of course I have been making myself 2 flowers each month, my additions were:
April
May
June
July
August
September

Introduing EPP Plus+ Worksheets
Welcome,
Today I'm releasing my first worksheets, prior to my weekly worksheet releases in 2017 so that you can get a taster
This is the worksheet to help you make a Plus+ quilt top like the one I shared last week.
The Worksheet includes details for the following quilt sizes:
- crib 40 x 50 inches
- throw 60 x 60 inches
- twin 70 x 90 inches
- queen 100 x 100 inches
- king 110 x 110 inches
You can find a free copy of the throw sized workpaper here, to purchase the full set of worksheets for the above sizes here in my Etsy Store.
Just to be clear my worksheets don't include full instructions on how to make the quilt top, just a breakdown of the number of pieces, yardages of fabric etc. I will be creating a full pattern for this quilt, that will be coming soon.
I'd love to hear any feedback from the first workpaper - is there other information you would find useful?
Make sure you pop back for my year of weekly workpapers in 2017
