Farmer's Wife Quilt 2015 instalment 4

Welcome,

Today I'm  sharing my latest completed Farmer's  Wife Daughter Quilt blocks.

Farmer's Daughter Quilt Block 48 - Homeward Bound
Completed 16th March 2015
For those that are new, I am completing  this quilt using the hand sewing method of English Paper Piecing.
Farmer's Daughter Quilt Block 50 - Honeycomb
Completed 18th March 2015
I find it a nice way to relax at the end of the day, though I am itching to spend more time in front of the machine - so many quilts in my head!
Farmer's Daughter Quilt Block 51 - Honey's Choice
Completed 21st March 2015
Again for those that are new, I have chosen to use the colour scheme of pink, green, aqua, white with a pop of orange.
Farmer's Daughter Quilt Block 51 - Hovering Birds
Completed 21st March 2015
This project has already taken over a year, all progress can be found here.
Farmer's Daughter Quilt Block 52 - Hovering Hawks
Completed 23rd March 2015
I am finding that my fabric choices seem to go in phases, some earlier choices I feel are now a little questionable, but I'm ok with that.
Farmer's Daughter Quilt Block 53 - Jackknife
Completed 28th March 2015
Overall the quilt will define my quilting journey.
Farmer's Daughter Quilt Block 54 - Kitchen Woodbox
Completed 28th March 2015
And I for one can't wait to see where that journey takes me
Farmer's Daughter Quilt Block 55 - Linoleum
Completed 28th March 2015
And this leaf is block 56 - that's half way to 111 blocks in this quilt!
Farmer's Daughter Quilt Block 56 - Maple Leaf
Completed 28h March 2015
When all of these blocks are together in a quilt they will all balance each other out.

Doctor's Bag - A finished project

Welcome,

This post has been a long time coming, I received this Doctor's bag pattern from 3 lovely ladies as a Christmas present.
Joy Patch Doctor Bag Pattern
They said they wanted something where I could pick my favourite fabrics. After much brain racking, wanting the bag to be perfect, one that I would use again and again, I decided that the main fabric should be English Paper Pieced (EPP) using up many of my well liked fabrics.
Finished Doctor Bag Front
I chose grey fabrics as I have a terrible habit of making gorgeous brightly coloured bags which then often clash with what I'm wearing - this bag is going to be monochromatic enough that it can go with anything, or at least, that's the aim.  I am loving the combination of soft colours.
Finished Doctor Bag Back

There were a few firsts in this bag - I had never used this thick bag interfacing before - it's great, gives the bag so much shape.  I will definitely use it again!

Finished Doctor Bag inside

I decided to add a zipped inner pocket and my first attempt wasn't great:

I know you can see the main problem if you can see past that bad sewing! There is no zipper pull. You guessed it, I then unpicked it all and tried again!

I also added a magnetic fastening instead of the velcro in the pattern, not that you can see this!

As I mentioned, this bag pattern was given to me by 3 lovely ladies, so I have added a little something to remind me of each of them.

Firstly B loves dragonflies, so I included one in a hexagon

Unfortunately I didn't check the pattern for placement before sewing the hexagons together, but luckily it just worked out and it peaks out around one of the straps on the front!

Whenever it rains J get's her Wellies/Wellington Boots/Gum Boots out and whenever I see them they remind me of her so I included this hand made label which I will see whenever I open the bag up
Finished Doctor Bag Welly Label
As you can see, I included one of my labels too!

And M likes to sew and gave me some fabrics a while ago that were superfluous to her needs, I have used one of the bright fabrics inside the inner pocket
Finished Doctor Bag Inner Pocket Pop of Colour
I love this bright pop of colour!

All in all I enjoyed making this bag, even though it has taken a while!  I had a few issues trying to fit all of the layers under my presser foot when attaching the handles, but with a bit of an adjustment I got it all under. I would make it again and will definitely be working with this bag interfacing again.
Finished Doctor Bag
I can't wait to use this bag.

February Flower Swap - Flowers Received

Hi!

As a reminder, this year I joined the Inchy Hexagon Flower Swap where we are allocated a partner on a monthly basis and then we create and receive 2 hexagon English Paper Pieced flowers with that partner.

I have received my February flowers from Paula in Victoria:
I have been asking for flowers that are predominantly pink and purple with plain centres.

And each month I have been making myself 2 flowers too, these were my February additions:

You can see the beautiful yellows flowers I sent here.

Yes, I know it says February up there and now it's March.  I was waiting to receive my February flowers and reveal them altoghether, but unfortunately I haven't received them yet so will reveal them when they arrive.
